SAFE–01 · Read before you train
Sparring is voluntary contact training. This agreement makes the risks, stop rules, honesty duties, and limits of Spar's role unmistakable before anyone arranges a round.
Effective date
12 August 2026
About 6 minutes
Before the first bell
This agreement is a safety checkpoint, not a promise that contact training can be risk-free.
01 · Know the risk
Contact training can cause serious injury even when the round is controlled.
02 · Stop means stop
Either person can pause or end participation before or during a round.
03 · Emergency first
Use local emergency services for urgent harm; product reporting comes after immediate care.
04 · Record consent
Acceptance is tied to the version shown and must precede arranging participation.
Even controlled technical sparring can cause concussion, cuts, dental or eye injury, joint and bone injury, disability, or death. No compatibility score, venue, protective equipment, coach, or agreement removes all risk.
You choose whether to propose, accept, attend, begin, continue, or stop a session. By participating, you acknowledge the inherent and foreseeable risks of contact training, including risks caused by differences in size, experience, conditioning, timing, equipment, surface, supervision, or another person's mistake.
You voluntarily accept those risks to the fullest extent allowed by law. This does not waive rights that cannot legally be waived.
Only participate when you reasonably believe you are physically and mentally ready. Spar does not assess medical fitness and does not provide diagnosis, treatment, or return-to-sport clearance.
Do not train when injured, concussed, dizzy, impaired by alcohol or drugs, affected by a contagious condition, or advised not to participate. Seek qualified medical advice when unsure.
Keep your identity, age, weight, discipline, experience, belt or competitive background, limitations, and intended intensity accurate enough for another person to make an informed decision.
A compatibility score is a starting point. Reconfirm material differences directly and involve a qualified coach when experience, size, rules, or readiness are uncertain.
Agree the rules and intensity before starting. Either person may lower the intensity, pause, or end the round at any time for any reason. A tap, verbal stop, visible distress, loss of orientation, equipment failure, or instruction from the venue or coach ends the exchange immediately.
Never punish, shame, pressure, or retaliate against someone for stopping or declining a session.
Follow the venue's rules, coach instructions, surface restrictions, hygiene requirements, and equipment standards. Inspect the area and protective equipment before training and stop if conditions become unsafe.
A Spar venue listing or verification mark does not replace your own inspection or the venue's responsibility for its premises and operations.
Stop immediately after a suspected concussion, loss of consciousness, severe pain, breathing difficulty, neurological symptoms, uncontrolled bleeding, or other serious concern. Seek appropriate emergency or medical help; do not rely on Spar messages for urgent care.
Report serious safety incidents accurately after immediate needs are handled. Do not alter, coordinate, or pressure witness accounts.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you release Spar from claims arising solely from the ordinary inherent risks you voluntarily assume when participating in independently arranged sparring.
This agreement does not release any person from fraud, intentional harm, gross negligence where it cannot be waived, breach of a non-waivable statutory duty, or any other liability the law does not permit parties to exclude. A gym or organiser may require a separate agreement for its own activities.
A minor may not accept this agreement alone. A parent or legal guardian must provide any required consent and remain responsible for deciding whether participation is appropriate. Venue, coach, governing-body, and local-law restrictions still apply and may prohibit or further limit participation.
By accepting this agreement in the product, you confirm that you had the opportunity to read it, understand that contact training can cause serious harm, will use honest matching information, will follow the stop rule, and are participating voluntarily.
Your acceptance is recorded with the version and time. If this agreement materially changes, Spar may require you to review and accept the new version before arranging another session.
Do not use email for an emergency. Contact local emergency services first. For a non-urgent product safety concern, report it in Spar or contact our safety team.
